Najat Aoun Saliba is a member of the Lebanese Parliament and an Adjunct Professor at the American University of Beirut. Saliba’s research focuses on the chemistry of inhalable tobacco and non-tobacco smoke and atmospheric aerosols. She directs community-led environmental projects that are based on the co-production of knowledge for finding the most suited local solutions. Saliba takes part in two global networks focused on scholar activism and climate change. As a diplomat, Saliba actively advocates for environmental justice and accountability in the utilisation of foreign aid.
Saliba has over 150 publications and has delivered keynote addresses at the United Nations, ministerial and parliamentary conferences, and academic symposia. Saliba serves as a Member of the Scientific Board of the International Basic Science Programme at UNESCO and assumes the role of Chair of the Technical Advisory Group on the Global Air Quality Platform and Health at WHO. She is the recipient of the L’Oréal-UNESCO International Award for Women in Science in 2019. She was also nominated among the world's most influential women on two occasions.
