Global Evidence Summit 2017: Using evidence. Improving lives.
12-16 September 2017 | #GESummit17
Cochrane South Africa is delighted to be hosting the 2017 Global Evidence Summit. The event aims to advance the use of reliable research evidence in addressing some of the world’s most serious health and social challenges. In situations of scarcity, it is particularly important that resources are not wasted on useless or harmful interventions. It is therefore fitting that this unique gathering of world leaders in evidence-based practice, policy, methodology, and advocacy, from five international organizations, will be taking place in Africa. We are confident it will make a meaningful contribution to furthering our shared vision of a healthier and more equitable world.
The Global Evidence Summit will be the first time that Cochrane, The Campbell Collaboration, Guidelines International Network, International Society for Evidence-based Health Care, and Joanna Briggs Institute have joined forces to create this premiere event in evidence-based policy.
The theme of the Summit is ‘Using evidence. Improving lives.’ and we have an event lined up that aims to showcase the luminaries in the field, to challenge and stimulate policy-makers and practitioners on how to base their decisions on the best available evidence.
The ‘Global Evidence Summit’ will highlight and promote evidence-based approaches to policy and practice in order to target resources to what works, therefore offering the most cost effective health interventions. With the Summit taking place in South Africa the opportunities and challenges facing low and middle-income countries will be a key focus of the Summit.
