Professor Lisa Askie is a Scientist and the Methods Lead within the Science Division at the World Health Organization in Geneva. Her role is to support WHO in adopting and innovating best practice methods and standards, thereby ensuring the evidence underpinning its global guidance is rigorous and timely.
Prior to her appointment at WHO, Lisa led a team at the NHMRC Clinical Trials Centre (University of Sydney), which managed the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry, conducted Health Technology Assessments for the government, hosted two Cochrane entities (the Breast Cancer Review Group and the Prospective Meta-analysis Methods Group), and oversaw an extensive medical test evaluation program.
Lisa’s clinical background is in perinatology, having worked as a neonatal nurse and midwife in healthcare systems across Asia, Australia, the UK, and the USA. She undertook her postdoctoral fellowship at the UK Cochrane Centre in Oxford, has published over 100 scientific papers, and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Health and Medical Sciences and the Higher Education Academy.
